Grading Categories Explained
· Grades fall under 3 separate categories: Summative (50%), Formative (40%), and Daily Grades (10%). Below is an explanation of each category. The category which assignments will fall under will be communicated with students when they are assigned.
· Summative: Grades in this category are major grades for the six-week grading period. This would include major grades such as tests, spiral tests, essays and projects. Summative grades are taken as a final reflection of knowledge gained in a particular unit of study. Most summative grades will be taken in class with the exception of projects that will involve independent work time outside of school.
· Formative: Grades in this category are assignments given to project how a student may fare on the final assessment—think of them as the building blocks that serve as the foundation for your studies. This could include culminating activities for historical topic, map assignments, and quizzes. Formative assignments may be given in class or sent home for homework.
· Daily: Grades in this category may include completion grades, daily warm-ups, and participation activities. Daily grades are given in class and as homework
